Moulin Rouge!

A movie about Truth... Beauty... Freedom... and Love!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The music... the actors. Just marvellous! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor had such good onscreen chemistry.

A tale of a poor poet who falls in love with courtesan... and when his idenity is slightly misconstrued... he gets his opportunity to win her heart over. However, she has a very dark secret. So whilst things change for the worst, his needs are not met, nor is he required any further. The things that happen are insane!

A very sad story, but very moving. I loved all the dance and song scenes. It was just so well done! It's a musical film. Watch it regardless of if you like music or not, because it's really good!

Jerry Maguire

"You had me at hello"

Ahhh... I liked this movie a lot! Tom Cruise was compelling. And Cuba Gooding Jr was actually quite good. Usually, he's over the top, but he was good. Renee Zellweger was also pretty good but Jonathan Lipnicki was so damn adorable.

Basically, it's about the world of sports. How agents sign players up. Things they use to do things, and when Tom Cruise's character gets a conscience... everything starts to fall around him. He writes a paper on what people should do to better the sports players and that gets him fired. So he starts a new company and tries to go all the way with his one client.

Very heart warming story! I really want to read his entire paper actually... see how moving it is for real... too bad it's only in the movies!

Gladiator

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

The fighting scenes... the armies... the choreography of it all. It was just maginificent! I never really realised Russell Crowe until this movie, but he was the perfect person for the role.

Going through all those tasks and stuff... was just so moving. An epic tale of the life of a Roman general who gets betrayed and sets out on a quest to seek revenge. It's definitely a movie to watch. Just the scenes that build up the story is so moving. Fabulous! Loved it!

Hitch

Oh puh-leeese!!!

Like that stuff really works! Okay, some of the stuff is really generic and it's basics that every guy should know... and the second part of the lesson... just be yourself. The movie was funny. I give it that. And dang, he had a really nice place. Will Smith is smooth, I give him that... but towards the end... it just got corny!

Eva Mendes was a little surprising. I never really noticed her before, but in this movie... she looked good!!! Kevin James is awesome. He was sooo funny!! His movements... his actions... everything about him was pretty funny. Stupid funny, but funny!

The movie is pretty much about a love doctor who goes around, helping people fall in love... giving them that little something they need to boost their confidence... but when it comes to his own relationship... everything just goes wrong.

It's pretty funny. But I tell ya... half the stuff he pulls off... only works because the people out there were famous and he was able to do a "Google" background check!

Buying the Cow

Er... okay... this was a little weird!

Yes... it was funny and man... both Bridgette Wilson Samprass and Alyssa Milano are so hot!! But even then... it's one of those stupid funny movies. Very cliche with the themes of love and sex and guys not being able to commit. It was really silly.

Basically, Jerry O'Connell's character goes into submission when he realises he might only "have" one girl for the rest of his life and he decides go on a whim to find the girl he once fell in love with... one of those... love at first sight things. Only to find a dark secret about it all that changes everything.

Ryan Reynolds on the other hand goes on a self exploration phase. It's so funny. He probably has the best character in the entire movie. Just the first few scenes with the "tucking" was just so funny! Hahaha!!

Oh well, good for a laugh. Definitely a no brainer ;)

Dead Man on Campus

A really interesting movie!

I have to say, it was rather bizarre, yet funny. The pretense behind the movie was just... so twisted. Finding someone and aiding them to commit suicide so that they can pass collegue due to the traumatising effects of the suicide... how twisted is that!

But seeing how they go about it... priceless!!

Tom Everett Scott was pretty cool. It's definitely one of those "don't try this at home" movies where you definitely don't want to be encouraging suicide... nor should you do what he did in the end... which actually worked! Hehehe. Light comedy... teeny type movie. But not too shabby at all!

Hair Show

Well... this was a waste of time!!! Even though I normally like these sorts of movies... this wasn't really all that good. The acting was a little weak and the "hair show" at the end... showed more clips of the female body (not that I'm complaining) than the hair itself!

Mo'Nique Imes-Jackson was as she normally is... Loud. What's worse... was that this movie... was almost an exact copy of Beauty Shop (with some elements changed). The rivalry between the two stores... one being broken into and destroyed... the needing of money... it was all there... only with this one, there was a Sistah involved. So it was family.

Even with guest appearances... like from Vivica A. Fox, it didn't make this movie any better. And for Serena Williams to debut in this movie... well... her acting skills need to be better anyway. Stick with Tennis I say!

A movie that's... only to be watched... if you have nothing else to watch...

Around the World in 80 Days

Ah, super fun movie! Like all Jackie Chan movies, this was really fun! If you've read the novel by Jules Verne, you'll probably find this movie to be rather entertaining.

I don't think I've ever seen Steve Coogan (Phileas Fogg) in any other movie before, but he was perfect for the role. And then there's Cécile De France who was also really good. She reminded me of someone else but can't just put my finger on it. And yes... who can forget Jim Broadbent. I loved the way he delivered his lines. Very theatrical, but quite suited!!

Who surprised me the most? That would have to be Karen Mok. Her English was fantastic! Sure, she lived in the US for a while, but for a Chinese person who does a lot of Chinese movies, her English was spot on without any Chinese accents!

But I think the most entertaining part about this movie are all the cameo appearances. There was pretty much one for each major section in Phileas's trip around the world. You get to see Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sammo Hung, Rob Schnieder, Luke and Owen Wilson, John Cleese, and Kathy Bates.

I'm sure there are others I didn't recognise, but this film was just a fun packed adventure! Definitely worth watching ;)

Girl with a Pearl Earring

A very... heavy movie to watch.

It's about the life of Johannes Vermeer and he found as inspiration for his paintings. It shows how he saw things as layers of colours and not for what it looks at first.

The whole movie was rather silent. There was not much to be said. So you kinda have to sit and watch and let their actions all sink in. The portrayal of life in that era was very intriguing. It looks at things like how peasants are treated and how maids are excused to places like the cellar.

What I did really like about this film is how they showed how paint was made in the past and what they used for colour. Colin Firth was as he normally is but Scarlett Johansson was brilliant.

It's a heavy movie, but if you feel like a drama, it's a good watch.

Batman Begins

I loved it. It was really enjoyable!

The beginning was a little strange, seeing him fighting in a prison, but how they ended up explaining everything made a lot of sense. Though, it was weird that he got out of prison so easily. He definitely didn't really put himself in there, that or the Chinese would definitely not have known he was going in there of his own free will.

Christian Bale was an interesting actor. I thought he did a fabulous job. Michael Caine was also excellent. He's such a versitile actor. I love the line where he says "You do so many push ups everyday and you can't even push that off you" (well, similar to that). Liam Neeson... I stand by my comment about him. He's born to die in films. So far, most of his latest films... he's been killed off. And his roles aren't all that long either.

And of course, there's Katie Holmes who plays the sassy DA. I think she did a nice job, but she looked too young for the part.

What I really liked about the film was how everything tied itself together. I loved how Morgan Freeman was the gadgets guy and his gadgets were pretty cool. What was also really good was that they made Bruce Wayne very human. The showed his bruises, his cuts. But there was this one scene when he was on fire. I expected his face to get burnt slightly, but none of that at all!

I think the main thing that I didn't really like... was the car. Yes... I liked the tank for what it was... but the fact that the chair moves into different positions for different modes... was just too weird! I mean... I don't get the point of shifting someone that low to use the weapons. And how does one bend in that position from a sitting position??? Don't you have to step on the accelerator/brake as your drive?! (Yeah sure... Cruise control when you're being chased by a cops and helicopters...)

Anyway, all in all, I loved the movie. Small hiccups will always just be hiccups. And I loved how it ended too. Definitely worth the watch!

Johnny English

Very typical Rowan Atkinson, but he's a legend.

The movie had it's moments and some parts were a little bit predictable, but seeing how it's executed is just brilliant! I found myself laughing out loud towards the end of the film when you see him... heh ;p

But I think the cast was well chosen as well. John Malkovich was awesome. I did find it surprising to see Natalie Imbruglia staring in this film. Too bad she didn't have a song for it, but she was actually not that bad at all.

It's a silly story where the Queen of England is being forced to resigned so that a tyrant can rule as king and turn England into one massive prison (in so many words or less). Just watch and see. What can go wrong, will go wrong! But it's how it's covered up that makes it funny!

Imaginary Heroes

Very... morbid.

It was an interesting movie nonetheless. It's about suicides... death... how life goes on after and how it affects us all. Losing a son is a difficult and challenging time and seeing how certain people handle it all is intriguing.

Emile Hirsch plays the brother who finds his brother dead in his bed room. Sigourney Weaver plays the mother who doesn't know how to cope with it all and Jeff Daniels is the father who just can't handle it. He goes slightly dillusional, thinking his son will one day walk back in through the door and makes his wife cook an extra plate of food to leave on the table in case that happens.

But each character is twisted. Living a life of rebelliousness and mischief. Michelle Williams, who plays the sister, is fairly immune to it all and stays very numb about the whole incident. It shows she's just able to move on from it without thinking about it. That and she lives away from home so it's made to look as if she's neglected from the family.

It is an interesting movie, but it will take a bit to get into the story.

Beauty Shop

It was good... but it wazn't all dat!

'Tis another one of those movies that's very cliche to the "black" humour out there. I couldn't understand anything the fishlady was saying. She was talking so fast and on top of stuff that I just didn't really get it. But I have to tell ya, this movie did have an interesting cast.

Queen Latifah (Gina) is her usual self. I think her roles in movies are all the same. She's always keepin it real. But there were a few people here that I just could not stand! Kevin Bacon and his fake accent was sooo horrible! I wanted to just beat him up Queen Latifah style from Bringing Down the House.

Andie MacDowell was pretty cool and Mena Suvari was an all time byatch, but it was good. The only "white chick" in the movie that I could not stand at all was Alicia Silverstone because she was damn... annoying!! Her accent was soo bad that I wanted to scream everytime I heard it. I mean... seriously... she could have easily pulled the role off without an accent. I don't think it was necessary at all.

Now, if y'all thinking how this ties into the Barber Shop 2... well... it's subtle, but it does have links! You first see the group photo of the Barber Shop cast where Gina works. And as you get into the film, you hear her say she had to move from Chicago to Atlanta so that her daughter can attend one of the prestigious fine arts schools. So, not a sequel... but a spin off. If you've seen both Barber Shop movies... then... well... watch this as well. If not, then don't worry about it too much!

Best thing in this entire movie... Hair Crack! =p

Around the Bend

One of those heartfelt movies. A family of boys (so to speak) on a trip to rebuild their family bonds. But how they got there, is a different story.

Jason, played by Josh Lucas, is living with his grandfather Henry, played by Michael Caine. Henry is on his deathbed, or so he feels, and one day, out of the blue, Jason's father, Turner, played by Christopher Walken, shows up unexpectedly and the family is reunited. Of course, Jason has a son, Zach, played by Jonah Bobo and the four of them are about embark on a bonding experience that will change their lives.

But because Turner has left Jason for so long, things don't go as planned and instead, Henry decides to take things into his own hands. Just before he dies, he takes Zach and goes to KFC where he writes a series of notes and puzzels and puts them into bag after bag after bag as part of a journey they are all to participate in.

Jason receives a call and both he and Turner show up that the KFC to see Henry dead at a booth. So Turner takes it upon himself to fulfil his final wishes. There's a twist. There's something about Turner that Jason doesn't know and doesn't understand. And at the end of the movie when it's revealled, it's heart breaking. It's so sad. But the movie is brilliant.

There's an underlying meaning to the movie but I don't exactly know how to put it. Whether it be "let go of the past" or "forgiveness"... it's something deep that I just can't explain. But it's definitely a good movie to watch. (Oh, it could also be a movie that's completely sponsored and endorsed by KFC as well... you'll see what I mean!)

Finding Nemo

Wow. It's amazing what they can do with computers theses days. I found that this was just stunning. The colours, the motion, the creature designs. Absolutely fantastic!

The story was excellent as well. Basically, Nemo, a clownfish-ling is taken from his coral reef home and put into a tank. His father goes off in search for him as Nemo is the last survivor of the batch of eggs that got eaten by the predator. So, it's like, Nemo is his only son. His father goes to extreme lengths to find him and it's absolutely amazing what they get up to!

It's got an excellent mix of humour for all ages and it's just fabulous to watch!! You must go and see it ;)

Coach Carter

Despite the fact that there's a tonne of inspirational movies out there and a tone that end up in the same way... I liked this movie.

Yes, it was inspirational. But it was also based on a true story. The way I see it, it's telling a tale of how someone helped a group of kids find themselves and become better people. To set them on the correct path. It's not something that you can shrug off saying "yeah, one of those movies... the team loses in the end" rather, it's about the journey of how they got there.

Regardless of the outcome, you need to look a little deeper. Samuel L Jackson plays a compelling coach. His words just resonated and it made you feel his feelings. It depicted his true intentions and how he wanted to set a positive example for future generations. I thought the movie was great.

I especially loved the poem that was recited. The poem was by Marianne Williamson.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we subconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
- From A RETURN TO LOVE written by Marianne Williamson

Absolutely moving.

But the movie wasn't just about the coach. There were so many little sub plots with each character. Themes like giving up, drugs, pregnancy and abortion, responsibility, loyalty... and so many others.

If you're up for a feel good inspirational movie, then definitely watch it. But if you're sick of all the cliche stories and endings... then just watch it for the basketball ;p

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Absolutely fantastic!! I loved it. I thought it was better than True Lies (which a lot of people were comparing it to).

There were some elements which I didn't like and didn't deem it necessary, like the overly shaky camera scenes where it was made to look like it was shot by a handycam... the first few were okay... because it looked as if the hotel was shaking as well, but the latter few were so straining on the eyes. But I guess it all worked out for the best! It had an excellent mix of action and comedy and just pure sassiness!

Angelina Jolie was damn hot!! And Brad Pitt was awesome! When they both find out about themselves, their actions and instant reactions were so damn good!! The onscreen chemistry was excellent.

The ending however... even though it was good, the action scene was a little unbelievable. I mean... come on... if I were an assassin team, I would have had snipers all aiming at the door ready to shoot as soon as they barged out but it was a little... I dunno... tamed down. I don't think a group of professional killers would have missed 2 easy targets. But other than that... I loved the film ;)

The Pacifier

Hmm... This movie wasn't all that good... but it wasn't THAT bad either...

It was a copy of a whole bunch of movies blended into one... Like Kindergarten Cop blended with Stepmom and Mrs. Doubtfire. I mean, it wasn't all that sappy... there were some interesting fighting scenes... and some really flashy moves performed by Vin Diesel... but the comedy in this was quite lame.

A Navy seal sent on a mission to retrieve some security program of some sort... and fails when the hostage he was rescuing dies... and he gets shot in the process... what's worse is that they didn't kill him off... that was kinda stupid... (okay, it's a Disney movie... I grant it that...)

But then to be assigned child duties... whilst the mother is off to some remote bank to try and get access to a safe deposit box... that's just weird. And the "ghost" CD he found... that's sooo not a DVD... It was an imation CD... what... a bootlegged movie? Burnt DVD if I saw it wrong? And they play a part with a "password"... yet... it wasn't even used... it's like the writers changed the story half way through.

Anyway... the wrestling scene was funny and some of the action scenes were okay... but all in all... wait until this movie is on DVD and rent it...

Pretty Woman

One of my favourite movies... why? Because when I first saw it... I fell in love with Julia Roberts. Her sassiness, her personality... awww...

But the movie itself is one of those classic fairytales. Rich guy picks up chick who wants to change her life... cause everything she had planned for in the past... didn't work out.

I have to say, I don't really like Richard Gere and Jason Alexander was just... annoying in this movie! He's better off in comedies...

I think the original theatre cut of this film was best. It took out the uses of swear words and stuff and it was just so much more pleasant. The scene with Kit, played by Laura San Giacomo, saying the fook word was just unnecessary... and the scene in the alley behind the bar where Vivian (Julia Roberts's character) looks for Kit was not needed either. They should have kept the horse scene in though cause it was just heart warming.

Anyway, I loved this movie... Julia Roberts was just fantastic! Her smile just lights up the room ;) Oh... and who can forget Hector Elizondo! He's "cool" as Vivian would put it ;p

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

I have to say... the fact that Matthew McConaughey's character, Ben, put up with that BS for THAT long... is truely amazing! I know for sure that I would have dumped the chick after about 3 days. Max. What some people do... to prove a point is simply amazing.

But truth be told... no matter how good an actor you are... when you are looking for something you want and you see it... like how Kate Hudson's character, Andie, found herself at Ben's family's home... She was intentionally being annoying to write a "How to" article on how to lose a guy in 10 days. But when she found herself and what she wanted, things changed a little bit... but in all romantic comedies like this one... someone else always drops the bomb.

Oh... and if you look closely... Kate Hudson looks more and more like her mum everyday!! It was a nice film... more for the girls to watch to learn what not to do to guys! Hahahaha ;p

Rat Race

Haha! This was excellent!! What rich people do for sport I tell ya!!

John Cleese plays an overly rich person who basically runs a gambling event based on the strangest instances in life. Like, how much/how far a prostitute would go before his conditions for the bet are met... and what people would do to win a million dollars.

A total of 9 people on a race... what could go wrong? Everything! These aren't your normal people... they all have issues... And there's an all star cast with heaps of cameo appearances!!

Rowan Atkinson is hilarious! His character was just so bizarre! He falls asleep standing!! Whoopi Goldberg is always funny. And when you see her in that jet car... HAHAHA! And who could forget Cuba Gooding Jr. and all those Lucy's... crazy!! The DVD actually has a lot of deleted scenes on that too! Seth Green is always a crack up...

Then there's the psycho Amy Smart and her helicopter... omg... you've got to see what she does! John Lovitz is a clown!! But when he gets the car and the ink under his nose... HAHAHA!! It's just awesome! And the list goes on and on... I don't want to spoil anymore... but it's bloody good. Definitely a must watch!

Being John Malkovich

A truely bizarre movie! Truely bizarre! But I loved it!

What an interesting concept! To be a puppeteer of a real person... the irony is that the person who discovered the portal, is an out of work puppeteer. Imagine living life through someone else. Seeing and believing you are someone else... And when you're done... you move onto the next shell.

Basically, this out of work puppeteer (played by John Cusack) goes to work as a file clerk... and the strange thing about where he works is that... the floor is only half a floor. Truely bizarre. People have to hit the stop button halfway on the way up a level on an elevator to force an opening to this... half floor. When you see them sitting down, everything looks okay actually... it's only that they can't stand up!

Anyway, as he's doing his job, behind a file cabinate, he finds a portal into John Malkovich's head. And with time... he slowly learns how to control it.

But the process in which things happen... is amazing... and how everything pieces together after this event... is truely bizarre! You definitely have to watch it!

Star Wars - Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi

The final episode in the saga... but the first thing you would notice is that there's something wrong with the above poster.

Worked out what it is yet? Luke has 2 proper hands... when one of them is meant to be robotic.

But this episode did introduce the Ewoks as well. And Carrie Fisher was put into that rather fetching outfit!!

And yes... you also finally get to see who Darth Vader is!! (but if you've watched the series in the 1-6 order rather than 4-6, 1-3 order... you'd already know everything and what he's meant to look like!)

It's an excellent conclusion to an epic story! What was really weird in the DVD version is at the end, when you originally see all the Jedi masters look over Luke, you instead see, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Young Anakin Skywalker. That's right. You see Hayden Christensen standing there. It'll be weird for people who watch it in the 4-6, 1-3 order in the future because it gives it away a little. Oh well... I guess it's not that big a deal ;p But he did look really silly standing there... looked a little out of place! But a great ending to the saga!

Star Wars - Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

Ahh, yes... the first appearance of Yoda. But what's infuriating is how annoying Yoda is. I swear, after watching Star Wars Episodes 1-3, when you see Yoda behaves the way he does in this movie... you would think... exile has driven him insane!

I think being alone in that world all by himself has just made him a little weird.

Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher still rock. They were awesome. But I just realised how annoying Mark Hamill is...

One thing I noticed about the remastered DVDs was that, you here Ewan McGregor's voice come through as Obi-Wan Kenobi rather than Alec Guinness. I thought that was really strange. They shouldn't have done that at all.

But this episode was pretty cool. Luke learns how to use the force from Yoda to prepare him for that memorable showdown with Darth Vader!

Star Wars - Episode 4 - A New Hope

This is the original Star Wars 1 movie, which was then later rebadged as episode 4 so that the other movies can fit in.

This is where you get to meet Luke and Leia played by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher (respectively). But by far, the best character is Han Solo played by Harisson Ford. He's just so cool!

It's just an awesome story that's perfectly matched with excellent special effects and action scenes (of that technological era). It's definitely something worth watching. Just the adventure the characters go through will draw you in.

Definitely worth watching.

Star Wars - Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace

Interesting story to the world of Star Wars.

Liam Neeson, as a mentor, was perfect. He's got that harmonious feel about him that makes him a really cool Jedi Master. Ewan McGregor I have to admit is perfect for Obi-Wan Kenobi. And yes, Natalie Portman is so damn fine!! Hahaha. I think I can't stop saying that ;p But she too was awesome in this movie.

What sucked the most was the character Jar Jar Binks. He completely ruined this movie for me.

The race was cool and the special effects were top notch... too good when it's compared to episodes 4-5... so it'll be interesting to see how things are blended in. But if you're a Star Wars fan, definitely watch this movie to see how it all started!

Star Wars - Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones

Ah yes, this was pretty good! I loved how everything is gradually being explained (even though you know what's going to happen in the future episodes).

What I loved most about this movie, was Yoda. He's just a bouncing gummy bear I tell ya and after all that bouncing, he reaches for his walking stick. That was just hilarious!

And Natalie Portman... still so damn hot! And when you see her fighting and having pits of her outfit being ripped off... you think to yourself... Damn! Rip more! Rip more!!!

It's a must see!

Breakin' All The Rules

Er... okay... some things were rather funny, but it wasn't all that great. It was just an average movie.

Basically, the character played by Jamie Foxx writes a best selling book on how to break up with someone. His cousin uses tricks from the book to break up with his girl friend played by Gabrielle Union.

But because humans will be humans, what people can't have... they want... and the girls turns tricks and uses the book against the guys. What was funny was that, they said Gabrielle looked like Halle Berry when she got her hair cut... she looked nothing of the sort!!

Anyway, alls well that ends well. Things get sorted and people pair off like you wouldn't believe. It's a comedy that wasn't too funny... but it does give you a few good laughs here and there.

Yesterday Once More

Interesting Movie. Basically, the couple are thieves. So it's like a Mr and Mrs Thieves type movie. Only, They are up against each other on who can out do who.

Sammi Cheng and Andy Lau are famous Chinese singers, and in this movie, they play the Mr and Mrs Thief. They don't give us too much information as to what happened in the past, but the movie starts off in a way where you think they are rivals after the same goal.

You don't actually realise they are husband and wife until they explain it a little, but the movie isn't exactly all that action packed. Rather, it's a love story between the two. It's got a sad ending in a way... but it's an interesting movie to watch. They have really nice apartments!! And man... he definitely accumulated a lot of assets without her knowing!!!

Just goes to show how much he held back so she wouldn't get upset ;p What a guy does! Heh!

The Transporter

Wow. I have to admit, this was surprisingly good. The action scenes were awesome and it just reminded me of a Jackie Chan movie, but without Jackie Chan.

Jason Statham is awesome!! His movements and kicks were so fluid! And when you watch the special features of it on DVD, you'll realise that he had to learn all that for the movie. So it wasn't natural, rather, learnt from the movie, yet it looked quite fluid!

And Shu Qi... man she's hot!! And she looked so innocent and adorable in so many scenes... but if you knew the types of films she did as a HK actress... man... you'd look at her in a completely different way ;)

But I liked this movie. It was very entertaining. There were some really awesome scenes and some scenes where you say... "er... not possible!"... but it was good!
