Garden State

I didn't have any expectations when I watched this movie. Frankly, I had no idea what it was about. I just assumed that it was going to be funny cause Zach Braff was in it. Who would have thought it was going to be a deep and meaningful movie?

Natalie Portman's performance was gold! Man, she was good. That scene where she does the 1 unique thing that no one else has ever done before. That cracked me up!

She's a compulsive liar that suffers from Epilepsy (Any of various neurological disorders characterized by sudden recurring attacks of motor, sensory, or psychic malfunction with or without loss of consciousness or convulsive seizures). Her character is probably the most interesting in the entire story.

Sure Zach's character was weird, especially since his family was so stuffed up in a sense that, they forced him away because of a freak accident. I liked the fact that the movie started off so dark and obfuscative. It was just weird.

Anyway, if you're up for a deep and meaningful movie, then watch it. If you don't want to think or feel... I say, give it a miss.

Envy

Hmm... If it wasn't for Christopher Walken, I would have really disliked this movie.

Sure it's a Ben Stiller and Jack Black movie... but I don't think those two came up with a good story at all. I didn't like the whole poop idea and Jack Black was just annoying. Normally, you would think those two would make an awesome movie, but man, it's just wasn't so.

And the twist... er... that was dumb. I dunno. I think you really have to watch it and decide. It was just a silly movie.

Catwoman

Okay. The movie itself was stupid. Storyline of how she became Catwoman and the things that happened were stupid. I don't know the marvel background to Catwoman so maybe someone can shed the light for me, but seriously, that was a little unbelievable!

And isn't Catwoman meant to be bad? They made her seem half good and half bad. From the Batman series, she's always been bad!

Some of the fight scenes were soooo poorly done that you get headaches from trying to keep up. Effect of how fast she is? I'd rather just a good non-camera shaking fight scene.

Halle Berry with long hair... hmmm... she looked like a complete psycho. When she cut it and had short hair in the movie. AROOOOO! She looked damn fine! I liked some of the special features in this movie. That's about all that I liked. I didn't like how the prison cell bars were so damn wide, or how the story played itself out. Watch it on DVD if you have to...

The Girl Next Door

Hubba Hubba Hubba!!

Elisha Cuthbert is so damn hot! This movie is awesome! The twists and stuff was fantastic. I loved the story. It was just so good! At one point, I didn't think the movie was going to end cause so much was going on, but everything ended nicely.

Emile Hirsch was perfect for the role. I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off. He just looked so innocent. I loved this movie. The special features are good as well. You need to check out the DVD features ;)

Definitely worth the watch ;)

Taxi

I have to say, I really enjoyed this flick! It was fun, entertaining and man, can those girls drive!

Jimmy Fallon was a little annoying, with his whinny voice and stuff, but the movie was great. I loved the chase scenes, the introduction was pretty cool too. Though, seriously, that was not Queen Latifah wearing that jumpsuit through the streets... I mean... AS IF!!

But the models... dang! Gisele Bundchen... I didn't like her prior to this movie... but when you see her move and her in action. Damn she's fine!! And the scene where she frisks Jennifer Esposito... sooo goood!!!

Now, the storyline was a little crappy and very unbelievable when you think a big fat guy can be the keeper of the money for the girls who can easily take on his ass! There was also no damage to the Daewoo car, even after it smashed the car in front and behind, several times! Nonetheless, it was entertaining to watch. Watch it for a no brainer, eye-candy type movie ;) You'll enjoy it! The music was good too!

The Incredibles

Absolutely Incredible!! (I'm sure that catch phrase has been used soooo many times already!)

I loved it. It was fantastic! The story was good. The art was good! There wasn't anything (well, none that I can currently think of) that was bad about it. It was fun. Something good for all ages!

Character design was weird. Some people really did look like stick figures, but it was good that way. It made it really wacky!

Oh, don't wait until the very end of the movie. There's no outakes or anything at the very end. I expected there to be some, maybe it was just the cinema that took them out, but man, we stayed to the very end and didn't see anything. There was a short feature pixar film in the beginning of the movie that was about a sheep... very... weird!

I definitely recommend people go see it! It's just incredible!!!

The Chronicles of Riddick

I didn't really know what was going on during the first part of the movie. It was a little confusing cause they didn't explain what was going on or why he was a wanted criminal. I guess I should have watched Pitch Black first to get a background on the story but even then I don't know if I would have all that I would need to know to fully understand this movie.

I have to admit, Vin Diesel's voice is very hard to understand. It's so deep, that it's almost like mumbling.

Some of the fighting scenes were poorly filmed. It was so upclose that you cannot see the movements. What I didn't like was the fact that some of the fight scenes were acted out through pillars and stuff, so the lights flashes in and out and makes it really annoying to watch.

There were some really cool fight scenes despite the poor ones. And the sfx was really good too. I liked the portrayal of the Sun and it's overwhelming energy as it rose across the planet.

I say, watch it for the effects and some of the fighting scenes, but I can't say much about the story, too many holes. I might have liked it more if I watched the prequel but I guess I'll need time before I watch that. I'll add a comment to this if I do watch it ;p

Napoleon Dynamite

OMG... It was so expressionless that it was full of expression!!!

Jon Heder is a fantastic actor!! This movie is awesome!! It was totally bizarre, but it was bloody good! What was interesting about this film was that the main characters, Napoleon Dynamite (played by Jon Heder), Pedro (played by Efren Ramirez), Kip (played by Aaron Ruell) and Deb (played by Tina Majorino) were completely expressionless.

Napoleon was a super interesting character. His movement and actions were just astounding. I like the fact that the Jon Heder was so good that he kept the one expression throughout the movie. His mouth was partially open and man, it was just awesome. I want to know if he's really like that, or if it's just his character in this movie. (And what's with having a surname like Dynamite! Soooo weird!!)

This movie was truly bizarre, but I tell ya, you have to watch it! I can't describe the movie in any other way, cause there wasn't any real plot to it! It was just... good!

P.S. Stay and watch it till the very very end!! There's a massive chunk at the end of the film. It's not a small cut back scene, but it goes for at least 2-5mins!!! So stick around after the credits!

Cellular

Wow. I really enjoyed that! Initially I had doubts about the movie, but man, that was pretty darn good!

Kim Basinger was awesome! As well as William H. Macy! Actually, I don't think there were any real "weak" actors in this movie. Basically, the movie was about a lady called Jessica Martin (played by Kim Basinger) who gets kidnapped as her husband has something that the kidnappers want.

She's thrown into an attick where there was a phone, but the villians smash it so it's unusable. To her surprise, she here's a dialtone on the device still and constantly hit wires until she manages to get someone who'll listen. She manages to get Ryan (played by Chris Evans) who was pursuaded to take 10mins of his time to help her out by handing the phone over to the police.

When he got there, he heard the reality of it all over the phone and decided to take matters into his own hands when the cops were pre-occupied dealing with something else. So he goes out on a limb to help this lady... problem is... his cellphone is low on battery.

That's all I'll say cause the movie was sooo goood I don't want to ruin it. There were a few things I didn't like. One was the kid's name... man, that was a little inappropriate. And the second thing was the ability of that mobile phone to record all the numbers it answers. Seriously... some people must have private numbers!

Something I found that was awesome was the way the end credits were done! So keep an eye out! OH... and if you miss the first 2 mins of the movie, you've missed alot! So don't be late if you are to watch it in a cinema!

8 Mile

I have to admit, the movie wasn't too bad. There were a lot of unresolved issues and some of the things mentioned in the movie went no where. But I guess the main part of the flick was the free-style rap battles. They were intense.

I watched some of the special features on the DVD and man, there were things on there that you would go "woah" about! There are a lot of people out there who have talent that have yet to be discovered. But in a sense, it's like, who can argue the best to a beat, it's not a way to make ends meet! What I liked about it was that it was unscripted, and when Eminem couldn't hack it, he couldn't keep his mouth shut, so he faught back and completely killed the competition. Totally unscripted. It was awesome!

It's a different type of movie from the usual things I watch, and I liked it. It was very interesting.

Just Married

I guess I'm still on my Brittany Murphy movie spree... I dunno, she's just wacky, good to watch when you're not feeling the best ;)

Anyway, the movie was cool. It was rather funny. Anything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. I didn't quite like Ashton Kutchar's character. It was so... typical stupid male. It makes the male population look controlling and dumb. He overreacted a lot. But I guess they wanted someone like that so the story could build.

I loved some of the character's names. Sarah's (played by Brittany Murphy) family had the weirdest names!! The mother was called Pussy, the sons were called Dickie and Willie. And Sarah had the nickname Pee-wee. Hahahaha.

Overall, the movie was funny, though, I wish they showed more of the scenery when they were in Europe. Point of the story... the first months of a marriage is always the toughest.

Uptown Girls

Well, I guess I could say I didn't get bored by this movie... but at the same time, I wasn't overly enthusiastic about it either.

It's the first time I've seen Heather Locklear in a movie for a long time. And damn, she still has it! I dunno how she managed to maintain that figure! Brittany Murphy is a ditz. But a fun ditz.

I don't know why I watched this film actually. It was there, I was bored... so I did. It wasn't all that great. But it wasn't bad either. I say, brain dead movie. Good for ambient noise ;) I reckon chicks would probably enjoy this movie....

Little Black Book

When I first heard the title, it was rather intriguing. Little Black Book... so many people have hidden secrets. It was something I thought would be interesting to watch. Then I watched it...

It started off very interesting. It had a dark and mysterious intro, showing quotations with deep meaning and pictures and words saying devil and whatnot. It almost made it appear as if the Little Black Book in reference, was the bible. Clever! But how wrong was I.

The movie turned out to be a movie length Jerry Springer show. That's right. It was a movie based around a talk show where things happen. Things that should stay in the bedroom. But no. It showed how if you abuse your power, you get used.

Brittany Murphy's character was caught up in her boyfriend's past. She wanted to know all his little secrets, especially after she found out he dated a super model, but neglected to mention it when he mentioned all his other girl friends.

Now, she works for a talk show, and yes, uses her status to say... "pretend" to have interviews with these people for a show she's co-producing. All goes wrong at the end. Don't worry, I haven't spoilt anything. The plot was very predictable!!

Anyway, I won't say more than that, you'll have to watch. There were a few funny parts I give it that, but I wouldn't watch the movie twice.

Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Will Ferrell is an excellent actor, but I don't think he's capable of taking lead in a role. In roles where he's been either a sidekick or a non-lead character, he's absolutely fantastic. But there's just so much of him you can take as lead before you can't take anymore.

The movie itself was just okay. There were parts that sucked and parts that were funny. I loved the cameo appearances by all the other actors he's worked with in the past. That was pretty funny.

Most comedies have an extra bit at the end of the movie, that was no exception to this. However, the sniplet at the end wasn't all that funny. I would think the outakes for this film would be hillarious, but the movie itself just didn't really make me laugh.

Hellboy

I liked the special effects in this movie. Though there were some things I didn't like. I didn't like how the girl's powers didn't burn her own clothes or Hellboy's close for that matter. And they didn't really explain the robot thingo well.

There were some funny scenes and stuff. It was entertaining. The story was alright, but it didn't explain much of the beginning or where Hellboy came from. It looked as if Hellboy was the guy who opened the portal in the beginning. But it was never fully explained.

I also wanted to see some more special characters, but I guess you can't get everything. It was entertaining though ;)

The Day After Tomorrow

Also known as "2 Days From Now"... trying to put a funny twist on something that was CRAP!

The special effects lasted but a mere few moments and the storyline... was dead.

The ending was stupid and I don't know what point there was to this movie! Decent actors, horrible movie. Don't waste your time with it. OR the DVD... I just don't think it's worth it...

Eurotrip

Hehehehe. A cool teen flick. Most of them were newbee actors.

You come out of this movie with a new catch phrase. "Scuzzi Scuzzi!!!" hehehehe. That was so funny. There were some dumb parts, but man, who can forget "Fluggengegeholen" or was it... "Fluggengecheimen". Hehehe!! You must watch to find out! I didn't even recognise Lucy Lawless!

And who can forget Hapi Djus? Ahhhh.... Hapi Djus ;) If you watch the DVD, you'll so many special features that's definitely worth the watch ;) hehehehe. I liked this movie. It's a no brainer. It was quite entertaining! And you get to see parts of Europe ;)

Surviving Christmas

I don't know... I just don't know. The movie annoyed me... well, Ben Affleck annoyed me. But the sad part about it all is that I could relate to the bloody thing.

Anyway, there were some quirky parts about this film, I can't say much about the plot. It was so over the top... If it didn't have some of my favourite actors in it, I wouldn't have watched it. James Gandolfini was in it as well as Christina Applegate! Oh, and man, I haven't seen Catherine O'Hara since Home Alone.

Basically, the story is about a guy who never had a good Christmas as a child and now that's he's rich, he goes out and hires a family for Christmas. Well, the family he hires... (not by coincidence) lives in the house he grew up in.

The family then has to endure the guy's every demand in order to get paid a rather large sum of money. That is of course, until he finds out the family has their own problems, and the arrival of the daughter, changes a few things. Yes yes, boy falls in love with girl... seen one of them, seen them all.

I don't know if this was meant to be a comedic drama, or what it is... but I would say this is something you'd wait till free-to-air TV shows. It's got some high profile actors, just that, I dunno, it seamt pretty C Grade to me. Though, I did like the part where James Gandolfini throws snow balls at Ben Affleck! Hehehehehehe

Wicker Park

Wow. This was a suprisingly good movie. I was misinformed about this flick before I watched it. But after I've watched it, everything made sense. It was excellent! The story and the plot was pretty good.

I guess you could say it's a story of chance and coincidence. But, I did seem to find a few holes. There will be a scene where you see Aleks (played by Rose Byrnes) take a Cab to an apartment. Then the next morning, which was shown earlier (confusing huh?) she drives off and it was made to look as if she drove to the apartment.

And seriously... if you sent someone to China for a meeting of some sort, and that person still has not yet arrived or called back into the office for that matter, would you not say something's weird? Would the company in China not call down and inquire? But I guess they were minor details in the entire plot.

Some scenes were very cliche. Like boy walks out, looks the other way, girl walks behind him in. You know, that sort of stuff. But all in all, I have to say I liked it. It was pretty good. I didn't find Diane Kruger all that pretty though. Definitely not something to go running all over town over.

Ocean's Twelve

It was an interesting film to say the least. It's not a no-brainer. You really have to think. Well, that or you really have to keep track of the time!

I didn't like the story as much as I liked the first movie. Mainly because at the end, you would think, what was that all for?

For those who couldn't keep up with the timeline, it would have been one bloody confusing movie. I liked the vagueness of it all. It kept you thinking through out the entire movie. They say one thing and explain it like 30mins down the track. So whilst you have to keep track of what went on, and what goes on in the movie, as well as when it's all happening, you find yourself rather involved.

The twists were good. I loved the twist with one of the characters. It was weird but hillarious. And the dance scene, that was rather intense, but man, that was classy!

Some parts of the movie were rather corny... but I still liked it. The one thing I dispised the most, was the lack of translation for the Chinese guy. But even then, the way it was filmed was clever. Even without the translations, you kinda understood what he said. It was as if you were one of the 12, trying to work out what he was saying.

To sum up, I liked the movie. I can't compare it to the first interms of overall performance, but it was just as good.

Alien Vs Predator

I have to say, this was the most disappointing movie ever. Individually, their prequels rocked. The game rocked. This movie... sucked! The story behind it was rather crap. At the end, I thought the woman and the predator was going to kiss for crying out loud!

The fight scenes were pretty lame. Most of the time, the filming was so up close that you don't get to see anything. The first fight scene was shot so poorly that it was just close ups of parts of both the Alien and the Predator.

Usually, I won't spoil a movie when I blog about it, but seriously, the fact that they left an opening for a sequel... was just soooo wrong! I liked the intro. The movie started off well, for like, the first 20 minutes. Then it got really crap.

And the end where you see the Alien jump out of the dead Predator... like come on... even the humans knew when they had it in them... and they were able to say "kill me now" etc... as if he wouldn't know he had it in him. The Predator had scanners and everything as well. Shish!!

Utter bullshit is what I have to say. The woman took off her jacket and she didn't even show a single sign of being cold, despite the fact that they were in a freeze zone! And what? Leave her out there by herself at the end? She can really manage a boat by herself and get herself home. She's miles from places. She even said it herself.

I find it hard to believe that those 3 guns were the only 3 guns that were ever developed for the Predators. I don't believe that the queen alien was able to get out of the explosion unscathed either. The movie was just terrible. It's just ruined my image of two really good movies... I would go as far as saying, wait for this movie to appear on "free to air" tv and then watch it. It's not worth even renting the DVD...

A Home at the End of the World

This was one weird movie. I think you'll have to appreciate the hidden messages in the movie to fully understand it. Face value, the movie was crap. It didn't hold much of a plot or storyline, but when you think about it in another way, it seems rather intriguing.

It deals with a lot of current world issues and speaks of things you only think about. I would have nevered in all my life pictured Colin Farrell to do a movie like this! Especially since he had to do something most guys would dread.

In essence, it was a powerful movie. But the dialogue kinda sucked and there really wasn't much of a plot. I say, watch the movie if you want to see a completely different side to Colin Farrell, that or if you feel like watching a truely bizarre movie.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon... what can I really say... You would expect to see cameos from a lot of sports players, but I guess the movie didn't really have that big a budget. The only real Tennis player you get to see is John McEnroe... and he didn't really do anything special other than commentate. I was at least expecting him to go ape over a shot that was played during a match or something. Just for fun.

The movie didn't strike me as all that good... I like Tennis, don't get me wrong, but the story behind the movie seamt very weak. The tennis matches, or lack there of, were really fake and you can tell that the tennis balls were digitally placed in.

The actors weren't that good at mimicing Tennis players either. Their movement on the court was just so stiff and uncoordinated. I mean, seriously... tennis players don't move like that... and I'm not 100% sure, but I thought that you weren't allowed to leave the village during a tournament. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.

I wouldn't say it was all that bad either. But it definitely wasn't good. Probably just below average. If you like Kirsten Dunst, then yeah, watch the flick.

The Four Feathers

I have to admit, when I started to watch this flick, it was a little boring. But then, the main story unfolded and man, it got good.

It dealt with a lot of themes, with coward/courage being the main. Heath Ledger is a brilliant actor. He really brought his character to life through all his expressions and determination. My favourite character in the movie still, was Abou, played by Djimon Hounsou. Fantastic performance.

The story is basically about a soldier called Harry (played by Heath Ledger), who leaves the army when they are told they are being sent to war. Problem was, his father was a someone high up in the army and all his friends thought he was a coward. So his father disowns him and his 3 friends each send him a single white feather, which symbolises a coward. However, what drove him to go into war to prove himself was the 4th feather, given to him by his fiance played by Kate Hudson.

So it's a tale of a man who goes in search of his friends to return the feathers and prove himself that he's not a coward. It was excellent. What he went through and his journey was amazing. The first 10 mins may be a little boring and hard to get into, but it builds up everything up until the giving of the feathers so stick to it. It's good!

The Last Samurai

Absolutely superb!

The movie was riveting. The scenery, the culture, the portrayal. All done to perfection! Initially I didn't think Tom Cruise could have pulled off being a Samurai, but I tell ya, it was fantastic!

The swordsmen ship and the accuracy of the translations. Okay, there were a few lines where they could have used more translative detail instead of simplifying it so much into normal terms, but that's purely preference based. If it were me, I would have edited according to the speech pathology of Japanese people. I wouldn't have simplified it so it was standard American. But that's purely preference based.

The fight scenes were fantastic. The contrast between the two groups were clearly shown through uniform and armor. Proverbs and cherry blossoms. I loved it all. It could be cause I like the Japanese culture.

As Tom Cruise narrates through certain scenes, I could not help but agree with how he said that the Japanese are so disciplined that they work until perfection is achieved.

Other than my initial preference in translation comment, there was nothing I disliked about the movie. I thought it was just absolutely fantastic!

The Princess Diaries 2 - Royal Engagement

Okay, so I'm a complete sap. But nevertheless, I like Anne Hathaway. Sure she's not the super sexy type, or the traditional blonde supermodel, but she's cute. I find her very attractive.

Anyway, the movie was okay. I think I enjoyed watching it, not for the story, but for some of the actors and actresses. Anne Hathaway of course, only cause she started to really grow on me after I watched Ella Enchanted. Hector Elizondo has always been one of my favourite actors. Sure he's low key and doesn't play many major roles, but his acting style grew on me. And then there's Larry Miller. He strikes me as a funny guy. He has the weirdest roles in movies, but most of them are pretty darn funny!

The story itself lacked a little depth. I found it to be quite all over the place if you know what I mean. It was just... chaotic. Maybe it would have made more sense if I actually watched The Princess Diaries. I was sure I watched it before, but as I was going through this, I realised that I haven't, but it was too late to stop and dig up the first movie to watch. I guess I'll watch it some other day.

I think chicks would generally like this movie. I can't say I enjoyed it for the story, but it was slightly entertaining, a little heart felt at times... but that's about it.

The Italian Job

I want a Cooper Mini!! After watching this film, I say, the Cooper Mini is awesome! There were a few things in the movie that I didn't really agree with though. Like when the car few out of the tunnel, went up... and had the nose go down first... In a normal car where they have the engine in the front, sure, that would happen... but this Cooper Mini was carrying a megaload of gold bars!!

The movie was awesome though. It was well filmed with great direction. It was humourous at times too. I think it was a bloody miracle they didn't die in the beginning. But I really want a set of speakers that are so loud that it would blast off any piece of clothing! ;p

But safe cracking... I wonder if people can really just do it by touch. How patient would you have to be to learn the art.

I've always wondered if they got into trouble for using "Napster" as a word the hacker used. I wonder if they were just making fun on the former online company.

All in all, a good flick to watch. Very entertaining!

50 First Dates

The movie was good. It's amazing how this movie played itself out.

The fact that each character in the story went to such extraordinary lengths to maintain a lie was astonishing. I guess it was good that she lived in a small town but even then, when newbies saw things out of place, things blew up!! (Like the cop scene and her car...)

Rob Schnieder is a hillarious side kick. I don't think he's capable of being a serious actor. Some people are just suited for comedy. I loved Drew Barrymore's performance. For someone who could not maintain a short term memory, she held he character extremely well! Every shocked expression, every surprise.

Man, I have to admit, it was good!I have to say, Adam Sandler wasn't bad either. I liked this movie. I liked the way it ended as well. I had heard of an alternative ending and I like the one that they stuck with!

Undercover Brother

Hahaha. I like so I liked it. It was a black movie ;) I like black humour. It's sometimes over the top outrageous, but it was cool.

I liked the characters too! Apparently there was an online animated series for this as well. It was on the special features of the DVD. It was pretty cool. The movie was extremely short though. Almost shorted than a Disney cartoon. It was roughly 77mins excluding the credits. I can definitely see why! There were about 30mins worth of deleted scenes on the DVD (more or less)...

Anyway, I enjoyed the flick. Thought it was funny. I didn't like the villian though, he was a little too annoying! I reckon they should have gotten someone that wasn't so... whimpy...

Connie and Carla

Haha. Yes yes, this was a funny movie. But I think it's something you'd only watch once (unless you're really into drag queens...)

It's like... come on... as if you can't tell that it's two women with too much make up pretending to be drag queens. They didn't even have adam's apples!!

But it wasa funny. And I liked how hitman travelled everywhere and watched every possible show to see if he could find him and ended up enjoying the shows. That was pretty funny. But yeah, not something you would watch more than once ;) Funny nonetheless.

Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story

Hahahaha!! The team names are so good!! And the team player's names! Classic!!

This was hillarious. Yes yes, it's very much alike most of Ben Stiller's silly movies, but it's still good ;) The cast was awesome. Vince Vaughn is so good. I like the storyline as well. It was so outrageous that it was funny.

I can't wait for the DVD. I'm sure there would be special features with more Dodgeball action. I was just a little disappointed that there wasn't much Dodgeball games showed with the other teams playing, but everything else was just great!

Watch it! You'll enjoy it ;)

Update: By popular request... Team Names are put in the "comments" of this post.
